It’s been a while since our last update but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy. Since finishing Australia’s
biggest skatepark in CAIRNS (a few more pics
here,

and here)
we have continued to design and build more parks all around the country.
On the Design front, we have a park in EAGLEHAWK (VIC) in the works that features an enclosed bowl
with a few hips and pockets; The bowl is connected to a park style section that has all the usual elements spread
out over a generous area.
Some recent designs we have done are nearing the end of construction - DEER PARK and SUNSHINE WEST (VIC).
At this stage they are about a month away from being finished. DEER PARK has a combo bowl with spine, hips, vert wall
and banked section
and SUNSHINE WEST has a small park style layout
We have finished designing two parks in WA - PORT HEDLAND and SOUTH HEDLAND, construction on these will commence soon.
Designed and built by Convic, FLAGSTAFF (SA) was completed in mid February to rave reviews.
Throw in a peanut bowl with pool coping, open bowl, park style course with some nice hits and you have a winning combination.
The park stands alone with these elements, but it’s the feature landscaping that sets it apart from the rest.
The artistic barrier seating, feature entry signage and planted areas around the park complete the package and shows
just what you can do with the whole site. The Billabong crew (Renton Millar, Aaron Rowe, Jon Lorcan, Jackson Pilz and Bart Carnes)
were in town to open the park. These guys only had a short time to skate before the rain poured down, but by all reports
they tore it a new one! For some pics

December 9 2006 was the 4th anniversary of the passing of one of Convic’s founding fathers - Cam Melville.
He is sadly missed and we were all thinking of him when Australia’s latest and biggest skatepark in CAIRNS
was officially opened on the same day. This was a fitting celebration of a life well lived and the contribution
that this true legend of Aussie skateboarding made to the development and progression of Australian skateparks
that are now amongst the best in the world.
At the Cairns opening celebration some of Australia's best skaters put on a series of demos for the crowd in the
crazy midday sun and the local skaters flooded the park from morning til night. Spectators from all over the globe
wandered throughout the park to check it out and it was great to see their reaction. The park, which has two bowls and
multiple skateable pathways, has already received rave reviews including a position on the “7 Wonders of the World” list
in the new Australian Skatepark Guide. Integrated landscape, shelters, lighting, an amenities block and the use of
coloured concrete to highlight pathways throughout the park all contribute to the overall effect and success of the park.
